This database is a working compilation of the invasive plant species found in salt marsh habitat or at the transition zone between salt marsh and upland habitats. Some of these species have a known tolerance to high salinity levels, but many others are not traditionally considered to be estuarine invaders. These "new" invaders are often found only sporadically and in low abundances because the harsh conditions of the salt marsh limit their spread. However, areas of transitional habitat, or ecotones, are important places for evolutionary innovation, which means even small invasions are worth monitoring.
